A GREAT INSPIRATION

Jason Becker
It was 1990 and Jason Becker had the world of rock 'n roll at his fingertips. Already considered one of the world's greatest guitarists, the nineteen year old virtuoso had just wrapped a recording session as the lead guitarist on David Lee Roth's A Little Ain't Enough and was chosen to replace Steve Vai for the support tour. It was every aspiring rock star's dream. However, just as he started playing with Roth, he was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's Disease (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or ALS), a degenerative neurological condition. Doctors only gave him three to five years to live.

But in the true spirit of rock 'n roll rebellion, Becker defied the odds and 12 years later he released his groundbreaking third solo album Perspective on Warner Bros. Records. Today, most of his body is paralyzed. However, while many would be mourning the loss of a promising career, Becker refuses to relinquish his gift to the unsympathetic disease. His spirit, humor, peacefulness and love of life remain a strong inspiration to musicians of all types. Even now, many of his compositions continue to be performed by orchestras, ballets and his peers.

"To call Jason a genius is an understatement."
-Marty Friedman
